Where the Heart Lies: Chapter 4

                

Lafen showed me around and introduced me to some other servants. "You will be serving the King and Prince," Lafen says as we walk down a corridor, "tidying their chambers and cleaning up after them." she stops and puts a hand on my shoulder. "This is the Kings' study," she said pointing to a door, "and those are his chambers." she points to a door opposite the first, "down there are the Princes' chambers..." she paused making sure I was paying attention, "No matter what...do not enter them without knocking." the tone in her voice told me that consequences would follow if I entered without knocking. After she finished showing me around she brought me to a room, "These are your living quarters." she opens the door and walks in, the room is better than the one in Laketown. "My chamber is down the hall if you need anything,"

I started my duties soon after. I make my way to the dining hall where Thranduil and Legolas are eating and discussing the problem with spiders, I stand in the corner to not interrupt them. "Sauron is defeated yet they remain." Legolas says. "Until the forest is healed they will remain," Thranduil says, "The magic of the forest kept them out, that power weakened as Sauron grew stronger. I am doing everything I can to heal the forest." Thranduil rose and exited, I slowly began to walk to the table, looking down to the ground. I hear Legolas get up and begin to walk in my direction, I take a quick glance up, suddenly our bodies collide.

I felt myself falling but someone grabbed my arm and prevented me from doing so. I was pulled up against a warm body, looking up I see bright blue eyes looking into my hazel ones. "Goheno nin." Legolas says letting my arm go. "I am sorry my Lord...I..." he smiled softly, he then noticed my confused expression, "...I do not understand." my face became flushed. "You do not know the elven language?" he asked taking a small step back. I shake my head, "No my Lord." I walk around him to the table and begin to clean it.


"Would you like to learn?" he asks turning to me. I look up at him. "I do not want to trouble you my Lord for..." he raised his hand stopping me from finishing. "It will be no trouble." he says lowering his hand. My blush deepened, "Thank you my Lord." I say bowing my head. He smiles, "Le athae." he chuckles at my expression, "means thank you." I smile softly, "Le athae." I say making him smile. "Come to my chambers later to begin your lesson." he says before leaving. My stomach flutters with both excitement and fear.



I told Lafen of Legolas' offer. "You must obey him," she was cut off by a younger she-elf, "Where is she?" she asks, "Where is the elf maid who healed in mere hours?" Lafen chuckled, "Ladeth this is my sister Katril." Katril faces me, "How did you do it?" she asks excitedly. "Not now Katril." Lafen says a little sternly. "But..." Katril started. "Go finish your chores and I might let you get the answer for that." Katril practicall sprinted out of the room. Lafen chuckles looking after her. "Just remember...you must obey him."
